As the oldest industry in Roatán, fishing around the island draws in anglers from across the globe—but don’t be surprised to find locals in canoes carved out of tree trunks just off the shore.
The calm seas of the island make Roatán one of the best fishing locations in the Caribbean. While many other fishing destinations involve a boat ride as far as 60 miles from shore, anglers in Roatán can find themselves over several thousand feet of water within only a few minutes’ boat ride from shore.
Drop your line minutes after leaving the dock, and reel in common catches including tuna, barracuda, wahoo, mahi-mahi, and the coveted blue marlin, with many other species making appearances seasonally.
Charter a half- or full-day trip to popular destinations in search of a boast-worthy catch. Sites like Cayos Cochinos or the northshore mangroves make for a perfect afternoon at sea. If you have something special in mind, please tell us about it—our boats always love to untie from the dock. Share with us where you would like to explore or what you’d like to see and we’re happy to accommodate!
For those just visiting Roatán for the day, we offer specialty trips that can work around your schedule. We’ll pick you up from your ship’s port, take you out for a deep sea adventure, and make sure you’re back in plenty of time to continue your cruise.
Each September, Roatán hosts the International Fishing Tournament in West End, coinciding with Independence Day celebrations in Honduras. This 100% catch and release tournament has grown in popularity, with catches getting larger each year. With events planned throughout the week, you don’t even have to be a participant in the tournament to enjoy the atmosphere on the island.
